The Technical Services division of Computing Services, located in Berry
Library, develops and supports Dartmouth's infrastructure for voice, video, and
data networking and computing. Technical Services develops and maintains the
cabling, hardware components, software infrastructure, and the primary
horizontal network applications for the campus data network including:
- Campus data network.
- Connections between the campus data network and external networks, such as
the Internet and Internet2.
- Locally produced network applications, including BlitzMail,
Fetch, and the PUBLIC file server.
- Campus-wide directory, authentication, and authorization services.
- Central file servers.
- Campus-wide print-spooling service.
- Industry-standard network servers, such as the World Wide Web (WWW), file
transfer protocol (FTP), and Usenet news.
- Management of shared host computer systems for administrative and academic
applications in the Berry Machine Room and elsewhere on campus.
- Network and server operation and security.
