To fulfill its mission, Academic Computing is organized into four
sub-divisions: Classroom Technologies Services, Curricular Computing, Media
Production, and Research Computing. The director of Academic Computing is
Malcolm Brown.
Classroom Technologies Services
The Classroom Technology Services (CTS) group schedules classrooms for Arts
& Sciences courses, and provides computer and audiovisual display services
to A&S academic departments and to other programs and offices of the
College. Highest priority is given to direct support of academic courses,
which is provided free of charge. All non-course support is charged at an
hourly rate. Additionally, CTS is responsible for the initial development
and ongoing upgrade of A&S technology classrooms.
Curricular Computing
The Curricular Computing group assists the Dartmouth faculty in the use of
information technology for research and instruction. This group's endeavors
include the Faculty Academic Computing Center in Berry Library, the Computing
Technology Venture Fund, support for academic use of the World Wide Web, and
providing leadership for projects involving multimedia. The director for
Curricular Computing is Malcolm Brown.
Media Production Group
The Media Production Group (MPG) is Dartmouth's professional in-house video
production center. The staff provides video taping and editing services for
major academic and College events such as conferences, guest lectures,
Commencement, etc. They also produce media pieces for training and promotional
purposes.
Research Computing
The Research Computing group supports and develops computing applications
and information resources with its primary focus on support of research. Its
efforts focus on computing applications that employ UNIX systems or other
server architectures in order to achieve high performance, supporting
distributed computing efforts, or running specialized applications.
