Program Overview

Securing the eCampus 2.0: Building a Culture of Information Security in An Academic Institution begins the evening of Tuesday, October 9, with a networking event.

Wednesday, October 10, will feature a full day of presentations. The morning sessions will focus on the importance of engaging the various groups within the academic community. Presentation topics will include information security and the "net" generation, the value of educating the educators, and balancing information security and the "open" campus.

Afternoon sessions will further explore institutional challenges and practical solutions with discussions on regulatory developments, privacy issues, and approaches to building cross-campus collaboration. Breakfast, lunch, and snacks will be included.

Event Sponsors

This workshop is co-sponsored by the Institute for Security Technology Studies (ISTS) and Peter Kiewit Computing Services (PKCS) at Dartmouth College

ISTS - The Institute for Security Technology Studies

The Institute for Security Technology Studies at Dartmouth College is dedicated to pursuing research and education for cyber security and trust.

ISTS strengthens homeland security through interdisciplinary research, education, and outreach programs that focus on technology critical for cyber security and trust. ISTS nurtures leaders and scholars, educates students and the community, and collaborates with its partners to deploy technology to benefit our community and to better understand technology's impact on our security. ISTS research improves our ability to design secure computer systems and protect them from attacks, enables people and organizations to form secure trust relationships across networked computing devices, and addresses social, economic, and policy issues that arise in the development and deployment of such technology. ISTS has focused its energy on three high-level goals:

  • RESEARCH, to provide thought leadership to the nation and to the world among academics, practitioners, and policymakers.
  • EDUCATION, to increase the number of students and faculty involved in security technology research, and to increase community awareness of security technology challenges and solutions.
  • OUTREACH, through collaborations that deploy our security technology and encourage knowledge transfer for both public and private benefit.

ISTS is also a member of the Institute for Information Infrastructure Protection (www.thei3p.org), which is a nationwide consortium of leading cyber security research and development organizations including universities, federally funded labs, and non-profit organizations.

Peter Kiewit Computing Services

Peter Kiewit Computing Services leads the institution in creating and managing the information technology environment of the College, and enables all members of the institution to use information resources effectively, productively, and securely in support of Dartmouth College's mission and goals.
