Constance Brinckerhoff

A leader in the studies of joint destruction in arthritis, and tumor invasion and metastasis, Brinckerhoff became the first woman to hold an endowed chair at Geisel Medical School in 1991.

IMPACT ON DARTMOUTH

Brinckerhoff went on to hold several titles at Dartmouth, including chair of Biochemistry, associate dean of Science, and acting provost, succeeding James Wright. She gave the 1996 Presidential Lecture, which she says is one of the best recognitions she's received, along with her Smith College Medal.

IN HER OWN WORDS

On her love of teaching, Brinckerhoff says, "Conveying the information and watching the lights come on in somebody's eyes—you can see the fog lift. That's a great feeling."
