A member of the first four-year coeducational class at Dartmouth, Martha Beattie went on to become a math teacher at Phillips Academy and a national-level crew coach.

IMPACT ON DARTMOUTH

A longtime board member for numerous schools and charities, Beattie's various alumni leadership roles include president of the Alumni Council and first chair of the Alumni Liaison Committee. Beattie received the Dartmouth Alumni Award in 2010 for her distinguished service to Dartmouth and began her role as vice president of Alumni Relations in 2011.

IN HER WORDS

"Most people never have the chance to be a pioneer.... Not only were we women in that first class of 1976 given the chance to do something for the very first time, to be that pioneer, but we were given the gift of being able to do it at Dartmouth."
