Student groups at Dartmouth represent a full spectrum of activities. Here is a sampling of student involvements along with links for more information.

The Arts

The arts at Dartmouth flourish in the two excellent facilities designed to make artistic expression a vital part of community life: the Hood Museum of Art and the Hopkins Center for the Creative and Performing Arts. With a catalogue of more than 60,000 pieces, the Hood offers an extensive variety of extracurricular programs each term. The museum's physical and professional connection to the Hopkins Center creates an integrated complex in which students can experience all aspects of the arts. A remarkably broad selection of internationally acclaimed musicians, acting companies, and dance troupes, as well as many student organizations take advantage of this multi-venue facility for a total of more than 500 performances each year. Many of the performers and artists participate in the Hopkins Center's Artists-in-Residence program and present master classes and lecture demonstrations that further enrich the experiences of all undergraduates.

General Interest Student Organizations

General student groups at Dartmouth make up about half of the organizations on campus. These groups span the spectrum of possibility, from Academic to Cultural to Pre-Professional, and range in size from just a handful to hundreds of students. New groups are constantly forming as student interests shift. Two of the newest groups on campus are Sheba, a hip-hop dance group, and the Tolkein Society. You can learn more about all the student groups at Dartmouth at the Student Activities Office.

Athletics

Among the most successful athletic programs in the country, Dartmouth's 34 varsity teams are members of the NCAA's Division I and compete largely within the Ivy League. In addition to the varsity level, the College offers numerous club level teams and dozens of intramural athletic programs. Over 1,300 undergraduates at Dartmouth participate in some kind of athletic program each year.

Outdoor Activities

Students participate in a wide array of outdoor activities. The Dartmouth Outing Club, which is the nation's oldest collegiate outdoors club, and the Office of Outdoor Programs organize group activities and facilitate individual interests.

Religious Life

Organized religious activities at Dartmouth are in the care of the Tucker Foundation, whose founding purpose is to "further the moral and spiritual life of the College." In addition to the College Chaplaincy, the Tucker Foundation works with the 20 different religious organizations on campus. Rollins Chapel, near the center of campus, is a non-denominational place of worship for all students.

Service

The Tucker Foundation is the center of community service at Dartmouth. The foundation assists students interested in participating in the work of more than 40 different groups on campus, in the Hanover area and overseas.
