Applicants may choose to submit additional letters of recommendation from other members of the community but these are not required. Dartmouth requires the following letters of recommendation: a letter from a high school guidance counselor or principal; two letters from teachers of any academic subject; and a peer evaluation. The teacher recommendations are usually written by 11th or 12th grade teachers, but this is not a requirement. The recommendation letters provide us with insight into the student’s contributions to particular classes, the greater school community, as well as his or her personal qualities and potential.
