I have been admitted to Dartmouth – can I defer enrollment for a
year?
Students intending to matriculate, who for personal or educational reasons,
wish to defer entrance for one year, may do so with prior permission of the
Dean of Admissions and Financial Aid. Our office recognizes the value of time
off between high school and college, and encourages all admitted students to
consider taking a year off to pursue an interest or passion. Requests for such
deferrals should be sent to the Dean of Admissions and Financial Aid by July 1.
Students whose requests are approved will not have to reapply or complete new
admissions forms, but new financial aid forms are required (if applicable).
Students who are granted deferrals may not initiate applications to any other
colleges or universities. The Admissions Office reserves the right to review
the activities undertaken in the interim and to rescind the offer of admission
if the student’s academic or personal record does not remain satisfactory in
all respects.
