Dartmouth must be a place of opportunity for students of all backgrounds. It is hard to imagine education taking place in an environment that is fully like-minded and homogeneous. And so Dartmouth seeks to attract a student body that reflects the richness of the world in which we live, and to offer an education that enables and empowers.
~James Wright, 16th President of Dartmouth

Dartmouth considers the diversity of backgrounds, perspectives, interests and aspirations of its students to be a critical feature of the community's intellectual and social environment. Accordingly, we seek to foster pluralism and to encourage students of all backgrounds to fully engage in the life of the College. In so doing, students are able to develop a cultural versatility that both strengthens our community and helps prepare them to take on leadership roles in society at large.
The Office of Pluralism and Leadership is a critical resource in Dartmouth's effort to both support historically underrepresented populations and to encourage the building of cultural bridges across historical boundaries.
The Office of Institutional Diversity and Equity is another important resource for students, faculty and staff at Dartmouth, supporting the College's ongoing effort to provide an environment where all who live, work and learn here are accepted and welcomed.
