File the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), available in high school guidance offices or online at http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/, by February 1. Use Dartmouth's school code of 002573.

CSS/Financial Aid PROFILE Application

File the CSS/Financial Aid PROFILE Application with the College Scholarship Service (CSS). You can register and complete the PROFILE online at http://profileonline.collegeboard.com/. Dartmouth's school code for CSS processing is 3351. Submit it electronically to CSS by November 1 for early decision or February 1 for regular decision.  If your parents are divorced or separated, use only the information for the parent and stepparent with whom you live.  Estimate income and taxes, if necessary, to meet deadlines (do not complete with 2008 income information).

Please note: The College Board will automatically award fee waivers based on financial information (income and assets) provided on the registration form. If the student is eligible based on the initial registration criteria, he/she will be permitted to skip the registration payment step. At the point the application is submitted, the student will be notified if the fee has been waived.

Noncustodial Parent's PROFILE Application

If your biological or adoptive parents are no longer living in the same household, your noncustodial parent must complete the Noncustodial Parent PROFILE Application on the College Board's website. The College Board will e-mail you instructions for completion of the online application to forward to your noncustodial parent. Your noncustodial parent's information will be inaccessible to you and your custodial parent. For early decision, the NCP is due by November 15. For regular decision, the NCP is due by February 15.

Income Tax Returns and Other Information

Once the 2009 returns have been completed, please follow the IDOC process described below.

IDOC

Dartmouth College uses the College Board's Institutional Documentation Service (IDOC) to collect financial aid information. In early February, your family will receive information from the College Board to guide you through the IDOC process. All document sent to the College Board must be accompanied by your personalized IDOC Cover Sheet.

IDOC Security

The confidentiality of your information is very important to the College Board and to Dartmouth College. Every effort is made to ensure the integrity and privacy of data submitted. To ensure the highest level of security, the College Board takes the layered defense in-depth approach and has implemented systems that include multiple firewalls with unique security zones, data encryption, intrusion detection systems, data and system backups, and data integrity checks. Information will be communicated only to the financial aid office(s) at IDOC-participating college(s) and program(s) to which you are applying. Paper copies of your documents will be destroyed after processing.

Documents required by Dartmouth College to be submitted through the IDOC process, all documents are due by March 1, 2010:

  • Signed copy of Parents' 2009 Federal Income Tax Return, including all schedules, W-2 forms.
  • Signed copy of Student's 2009 Federal Income Tax Return, if filed, including all schedules.
  • 2010-2011 Federal Verification Worksheet (Dependent Students)
  • 2010-2011 Federal Verification Worksheet (Independent Students)
  • 2010-2011 First Year Authorizations Form
  • 2010-2011 Business/Farm Supplement and corresponding 20089 Corporate or Partnership federal tax returns complete with schedules.
  • Estate and Trust Information (if you, your parents, or siblings are beneficiaries of an estate or trust, submit a copy of the appropriate Schedule K-1 of Form 1041 or Form 4970.)

Additional information that may be submitted to the College Board:

  • Letter of Special Circumstances- If the information you are required to submit does not accurately reflect your family's financial situation, or if you believe a particular circumstance should receive special attention, we suggest you write a separate letter and enclose it with the documents that you submit to The College Board's IDOC Service.

Note: It is necessary to submit only one complete packet (one set of required documents) to IDOC. If you have more than one institution listed on your cover letter, each school listed will receive images of your information. If your parents are divorced or separated, please provide your noncustodial parent with a copy of your cover sheet to submit his/her tax documents to IDOC.

Please do not send any tax documents directly to the Financial Aid Office, unless asked specifically to do so.
