Applying to Dartmouth

AdmissionsDartmouth incorporates an individual, holistic approach to the reading of applications. In reading files from an applicant, we thoughtfully consider the achievements of an applicant with respect to the opportunities available in his or her environment.

Each application to Dartmouth is:

  • Independently reviewed by at least two and usually three members of the Admissions staff.
  • Evaluated for the tangible academic accomplishments which are represented by grades and test scores and supplemented by essays, recommendations, and interviews.
  • Carefully considered for qualities such as passion for ideas, dedication to learning, leadership, compassion, integrity, motivation, and sense of humor.
  • Evaluated for significant extracurricular involvements and interests beyond the classroom - ranging from community service and debate to athletics and drama.

We appreciate the effort and care that students put into their applications. It is our hope that the admissions process will be educational for students as they assess their strengths and weaknesses and consider their future plans and aspirations.
