Arts
Culture hounds, have no fear: despite Hanover’s rural setting, the artistic and cultural opportunities at Dartmouth rival those in any urban center. The Hopkins Center for the Arts (the Hop) brings dozens of world-class performers to campus every year. Student tickets for most performances are only $5 or less. The Artist in Residence program invites professionals to Dartmouth to teach master classes, meet with students, and exhibit their work. And the Dartmouth Film Society shows more than 200 films per year, including new releases, art-house hits, probing documentaries, and silent classics (with live musical accompaniments).
But you don’t have to just sit back and watch: art majors and non-majors alike are actively engaged in performing groups and other creative endeavors. You can participate in one or more of the nine professionally-directed music and dance ensembles or join one of the many student-directed a Cappella, dance, or instrumental groups.
Like the theater? Try out for a show or work behind the scenes, stage your own production, join an improv group (or join another improv group).
Learn woodworking, try out pottery, or experiment with jewelry-making in the student workshops.
Visit the world-renowned Hood Museum of Art—or become an intern and curate your own show.
