I have heard that Dartmouth students go to school during the summer. Is that true?
Yes. Most Dartmouth students spend the summer after their sophomore year enrolled at Dartmouth. Being in Hanover for "Sophomore Summer" allows Dartmouth students to find internships, jobs and research opportunities during the academic year when other college students are not available.

With the Dartmouth Plan, can I participate in study abroad and other off-campus study opportunities?
Absolutely! Over 60% of Dartmouth students study away from campus at least once during their careers at the College (#1 in the Ivy League and among the highest rates in the country). Dartmouth runs more than 40 of its own off-campus programs in 23 countries around the world, and there are many other exchange programs to choose among.

For international students, how do US visa laws affect the D-plan?
The impact that a student's immigration and visa status has on the D-Plan will vary from one students to the next. Dartmouth's Office of Visa and Immigration Services (OVIS) provides support to all Dartmouth students coming tot he College from outside of the United States. The staff in OVIS is prepared to address a wide range of questions and to provide services to students throughout their Dartmouth careers.

How does the D-plan work for varsity athletes? Can athletes also study abroad?
Varsity athletes and coaches typically work together to identify the most appropriate terms for a student's leave terms and the best timing to pursue an off-campus academic program (if the student wants to study away from campus). Intercollegiate athletes at Dartmouth participate in study abroad programs at approximately the same rate as other students. Many student athletes find that Dartmouth's ten-week terms and year-round academic calendar provide more flexibility than traditional semester calendars.
