A history of the arms of the Grolier Club since 1884, as interpreted by notable designers from Howard Pyle to Bruce Rogers.

A century of Grolier Club seals as presented in Club publications and ex libris, designed by some of the great names in American bookmaking, many printed from original blocks or engraved plates in the Grolier archives. Dwiggins, George Wharton Edwards, Edwin Dean French, Jerry Kelly, Fritz Kredel, Le Roux de Lincy, Howard Pyle, Bruce Rogers (four devices), William Edwin Rudge, Rudolph Ruzicka, and D.B. Updike. An essay by Kit Currie analyses Jean Grolier’s coat of arms. With three tipped in specimens: an original 1894 Edwards bookplate, a three-color bookplate designed by Jerry Kelly, and an intaglio print (restrike) of E.D. French’s elaborate plate.
