Rep. Sanders to speak on Patriot Act

On Saturday, Oct. 9, U.S. Rep. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) will deliver the keynote address at a panel discussion on "Patriotism and Dissent: The Patriot Act and Civil Liberties." The event, cosponsored by the Dartmouth Legal Studies Program and P.E.N. (Poets/Playwrights, Essayists/Editors, and Novelists), will take place at 7 p.m. in Filene Auditorium in Moore Hall, and it will be followed by a reception.

Panelists include:

  • Claire Ebel, Executive Director, New Hampshire chapter of the ACLU
  • John MacGovern, President, Hanover Institute; former member of the Massachusetts House of Representatives
  • Trina Magi, Vermont librarian, recipient of the Vermont Library Association's Sarah C. Hagar Award and the Hugh M. Hefner First Amendment Award
  • Michael Mello, Vermont Law School professor
  • Grace Paley, Activist, short story writer, poet, essayist, and Poet Laureate of Vermont
  • Thomas Powers, Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist, author of Intelligence Wars: American Secret History from Hitler to Al-Qaeda
  • Nathaniel Tripp, writer, author of Father Soldier Son, a National Book Award Finalist
