The
New Hampshire Consortium on Arsenic
In
May 2000 we invited representatives from New
Hampshire's Department of Environmental Services and New
Hampshire's Department of Health and Human Services along
with representatives from the U.S.
Geological Survey to a meeting in Concord, New Hampshire.
The purpose was to draw attention to our overlapping interests
and activities around the presence of arsenic in the state and
its consequence for public health, particularly through drinking
water contamination. In May 2001, the Environmental
Protection Agency, Region I Office also accepted an invitation
to join the Consortium. The NH Arsenic Consortium has become
a truly collaborative group, with goals and projects determined
by its partners. The mission of the Consortium is to exchange
information, facilitate coordination of research and public
outreach and to foster future research collaborations. The Consortium
sponsored an interdisciplinary scientific
conference on arsenic in May, 2002. More than 175 people
from all over the United States attended.
