Faculty Announcements

The Sociology Department is pleased to welcome the following new faculty into the department

  • Marc Dixon comes to us from the Sociology Department at Florida State University.  Professor Dixon's research and teaching interests are the sociology of work and labor, collective behavior and social movements, and political and historical sociology.  He will be teaching Political Sociology and Labor Movements courses in the fall term, and the Sociological Classics course this winter.
  • Jiannbin Shiao has been teaching at the University of Oregon's Sociology Department since 1999.  His research and teaching intererests are Asian American studies, philanthropic diversity policy, racial/ethnic identity of transracial adoptees, social segregation and interracial intimacy, intergenerational social mobility, and political sociology, education and research methods.  Professor Shiao will be teaching race and Ethnicity in the US and a Sociological Introduction to the Asian American Experience courses in the winter term, and the Sociology of Asian America in the spring.

Professor Kathryn Lively was awarded tenure this spring and received the C. Troy Shaver 1969 Fellowship for the 2008-2009 academic year in recognition of her scholarship and teaching.

Professor John Campbell received a grant from the National Science Foundation, Division of Social and Economic Sciences, for his project titled "Knowledge Regimes and Comparative Political Economy".
