DCARS Chair Dashboard

Guides

To log into DCARS select DCARS (Dartmouth Course Approval and Routing System) from your Faculty and Advisor Menu on BannerStudent. You can also select the link provided in DCARS e-mail notifications sent at each step of the course approval process.

Chairs review new or update course proposals that faculty members in their department/program submit. Refer to the DCARS Faculty/Administrator Dashboard Guide for more information.

This guide will lead you through the steps to approve, deny, or return both new and update course proposals for your department/program.

Step 1: Select the title of the course you want to review under the "Proposals Needing Action" section to open the course proposal summary page.

 Proposals Needing Action

Step 2: After you review the course proposal summary page, you can take the following actions:

  • Return For Revision - Sends the course proposal back to the faculty member (or proxy) for edits. The faculty member can re-submit the course to the Chair for further review.

Return For Revision

  • Deny - Notifies the faculty member you denied the course. They can no longer edit the current proposal and cannot resubmit it. Only use this in very rare cases.

Deny

  • Send To Divisional Council or Associate Dean - Approves the course proposal and sends it to the appropriate Associate Dean or Divisional Council for review.

Send to Div Council or Assoc Dean

Step 3: Add comments and Submit Course to Next Stage

  • You may add comments to your approval in a popup text box. Comments display on DCARS dashboards to other users.

Send to Div Council or Assoc Dean

The course will progress to the next stage of review. See the DCARS Course Approval Flow for a detailed view of course approvals.
