So first of all, the playing this weekend was incredible, and we were
really impressed with the how well everyone did. People really stepped up
their games and came together for some seriously kick-ass ultimate. Another
thanks to Little Liz who brought us english muffins all toasted and buttered
on saturday morning. Much appreciated!
And finally, I'd just like to tell a little story that is perhaps one of
the funnier things I've heard n a while.... So our freshman Kristen had to pee
really badly at the party, so she went upstairs to the bathroom. The line
however, was really long so Kristen goes right up to the front to the line,
walks up to the girl who is next in line and says "hey, I'm going to pee
with you, okay?" And the girl is like "sure." So Kristen and
some random girl she didn't know shared a stall together and had a little pee
party. That cracks me up... who does that?
On to the important stuff now. Day 1:
Datmouth vs. Brown (5-7) Princess Layout came to play looking sexy as hell
in our best Moulin Rouge outfits. The weather was iffy, and the field was
downright awful, but we played a tough game anyway. Tiffany had a sweet layout
D, Kat had an awesome layout score and Lakshmi had a bunch of really nice
catches. We played them tough, but in what felt like a super short game, we
couldn't pull it out in the end.
Dartmouth vs. Tufts (13-5) We were still on the trapezoidal field, and it
was drizzling a bit at this point. We decided to throw our zone, which was so
hot all weekend. Liz and Mer played some awesome cup and Tufts just couldn't
break through us. Lindsay had a sweet point block right on the end zone line.
We overpowered Tufts, wet and muddy.
Dartmouth vs. Cornell (12-11) This was perhaps one of the more satisfying
victories we've had. We scored 3 points easily off the back, and perhaps got a
tad overconfidant. The rain was on and off, and there were a few puddles on
the field (lindsay was offering a 40 for a layout Callahan into the puddle,
and a handle for a layout greatest into the big puddle). We played some really
hot zone. Kat and Erica had some awesome blocks in the cup, and Lesher had our
back with her outstanding performance as a long. We got down 7-5 at half, a
little pissed because they were playing a tad dirty and their coach was a
little argumentative. We came back our, scored two quick points to tie it up,
but then slacked off a bit and went down 10-7. Finally, we got ourselves
really psyched up, but in a really strong zone team and showed Cornell how we
could play ultimate. We scored the next 4 points, going up 11-10. They managed
to score again, tying it up at 11's. After a few bad calls, a few swilly
throws, a few arguments with their coach. We had an awesome point, with some
really sweet flow between Vi, Erica and Kat to win the game.
Day 2:
Dartmouth vs. WHUFO (13-14) A heartbreaking game. A much nicer day, but the
wind was awful. Lots of swilly throws made by both teams. We basically traded
downwind points, both teams scoring 2 upwind points the whole game. We played
a lot of huck and Z (or Pull and Z cause Erica can never call the right things
on the line). Tiffany had some awesome layout grabs, as she did all weekend (I
think she catches better if she has to layout for it). We had a really nice
comeback from being a few points down, but just couldn't pull it out in the
end.
Dartmouth vs. Havard (15-2) This game started out well, with us realizing
that Harvard isn't as smrt as they think they are.... they chose to recieve
our pull going upwind... silly Harvard. We got to pull out of "I am so
smart. S-M-R-T" cheer and everything for them. We had some really nice
flow going, and again some really hot Zone. Erica had a nice and painful block
of a huck in the zone. Orsi had a really nice end zone catch, and people were
generally playing a really good game. Kat was able to rub it in Harvards face
that they wouldn't let her practice/play with them. Tsk tsk, they realized
their loss.
Dartmouth vs. Wellesley (14-13) (Game for the winner of loser of the A
bracket) Another really close game, that just felt incredible to win. Everyone
really stepped it up this game, and played through their tiredness, soreness
and busted their asses. Haily and Brooking each had a sweet block in the zone,
Lakshme had an awesome layout score, as did Lesher. Kat had this sweet layout
catch where she got totally horizontal and grabbed the disc overhand. Erica
had a sweet I.O. to liz. It was getting down to the wire, tied at 13's and
Ariel had a key D that totally stopped Well's flow, even though she'd lost her
"turbo speed" (it was that one cookie she ate....). Finally, after a
long point, Lesher had a sweet outside in right into the endzone that Erica
ran down. We then had a game of Bang Splat with them that was most enjoyable.
Lakshmi held her own in the finger fencing, but just couldn't beat the Well's
girl.
Lastly, thanks to Erica's parents brought lots of good food and I think
they rather enjoyed WHUFO's cheer to us (Ms. Dartmouth Mom sung to the tune of
Ms. Robinson), and ours to them. Thanks for coming out and playing this
weekend, and for giving it your all. This team is really coming together and
playing like they want to win. It was a great weekend, despite the elements
and we are really pleased with everyone's performance.
Thank you Princess Layout.
