Hello Princess Layout Yesterday we had our first tournament, Coffee Cup,
hosted by Yale. The weather was perfect, and PL had an awsome day in New
Haven. We had a pretty full squad out there, including some freshman and our 2
Wheaton-ites (we love you Kat and Amy). It was a long day of ultimate for us,
seeing as we got all the way to the finals!!!
Our first game was against Tufts, which has been an extremely strong squad
in the past. We were playing well, our freshman were picking the game up super
fast, and things were going our way. We got a quick start and were up 3-0.
They started to put things together a little better and tied it up at 3's.
After trading points for a bit in the strong wind, we decided to throw a zone.
Its a good thing we had our Zone - D crash course right before the game! We
played a few tough points of zone, the hard cap got put on and Princess Layout
won 7-6.
Round two of pool play was against Wesleyan. Again, we threw our hot zone
and broke them down pretty quickly. We had a lot of very long points, because
of the strong wind. We came out on top though, 9-1 with some really hot
freshman points.
After the re-seeding, PL was now first in our pool and we had to play
Columbia. Those NYC teams are always tough ones, but they were no match for
us.... well it was actually a pretty good match. We started out with a few
quick points again, and were feeling confident. Our huck and Z was working
really well, and Kat had some sweet hucks in the end-zone we scored off. We
ended up ahead 8-6 (i think) to end it.
Next we had to match up against MIT, who was the regional champion last
year and went to nationals. However, it seemed they had a slightly small squad
out for Coffee Cup. We took half at 6-6, which could have been very bad for
us.. but we pulled together scored downwind, scored upwind and won the game at
10-8.
We now were in the finals, playing against one of our favorite teams and
arch rivals, WHUFO. Our men were finished playing and had come over to cheer
us on. It was a tough 5th game of the day, and PL was a little run down. We
ran hard and played tough but they took half at 7-1, and gave a strong Banana
Cheer. We got back out there and scored a few more points, but were still
trainiling 10-5. So we decided to play an underwear point. WHUFO kindly
answered back and took their pants off as well. We won the point on a sweet
layout from Liz in the endzone. We then decided to go shirtless too. Although
losing the point, we had more style. The game ended with us down, 6-13.
All in all, it was an awsome day and there is no shame in losing to WHUFO
in the finals. Our freshman were awsome, and everyone really stepped up and
played a great day. Thanks all that came and played, it was a fun day.
