BUDA, Fall 02

Good evening and welcome to this edition of the Princess Layout Tourney wrap-up... the Dartmouth Women cruised down to Devens, MA on Saturday morning to find that the BUDA tourney directors had arranged piss-poor weather for us. here's a brief recap of the exciting events that followed...

Game 1 vs. Smith: (imagine rain) We came out strong against the smithies in our first game with them this season. They had this one girl with crazy hucks, but other than that they couldn't handle our hot zone D. After halftime our flow starting looking quite good and we took it away. 11-2

Game 2 vs. UVM: (imagine more rain) UVM had a couple of really strong handles and not much behind them, so we decided to throw a four man cup. we kept them close to our enzone line pretty much the whole time and forced the Callahan, yeah Kat! props to stoller and liz who caught most of our scores that game. we won: 11- 0

Game 3 vs. WHUFO B: (imagine more wetness than ever) there's not a whole lot to say about this game. they were fun to play and we were solid. another bagel: 11-0

Game 4 vs. UMass: (imagine it letting up jUst enough for the disc to dry) we had a big break in between the whufo and the umass game, so we were a bit cold off the starting block for this one. UMass took advantage and dominated the first half with their sick handling. The second half we stepped it up and they had trouble with our zone. our flow also got really hot, but not hot enough to come back, we loose: 6-11

dinner quickly became a fiasco in logistics, but once we made it back to Abby's apt for dryness and warmth, the world was set right again. props to abby's soft carpeted floor, her roomates who tolerated us tracking grass everywhere and spreading our stank all over. Sunday morning we pounced on the fields, well-rested and raring to go.

Quarter Finals vs. BU. Highlights from this game include a sick, sick layout by ms. aekta shah and ariel ruled the enzone by scoring most of our points. our o was expecially hot this game and we took this one to the record books quickly. 13-1.

Semis vs. UVM: UVM was out for revenge in this rematch. they'd definitely gone back to the drawing board and stepped it up becuase our zone didn't quite hold them as well. it was exciting, we stepped up the intensity several notches and our offense carried through from the BU game, including our developing long game. we pulled through strong again. 15-7

Finals! vs. UMass: this was an intense rematch. our d was a step behind here and there and UMass took advantage. our intensity was high with people bidding all over: stoller with a layout D and little liz with a hot layout catch. our mistakes on O haunted us, though and UMass cruised in for the victory: 13-6

come to practice tomorrow to see our 2nd place trophy! shout outs -- to our 05s who did quite a bit more handling than they ever have and proved their worth as such. to kat for being a fantastic coach. to abby for being our wonderful hostess. to our two 06s who braved the weather and both improved by leaps and bounds this weekend. and many more. i'm so fired up about this team. we played strong the whole weekend. our hard work in practice and conditioning is paying off and it can only continue through purple valley and beyond... live it, love it, lay it out -lindsica
