All members of the classes of 2009, 2010 2011 who are in good standing with the College and have an "R" for their D-Plan for the term in which they are seeking housing are eligible for on-campus housing. On-campus housing includes residence halls, affinity programs and college or privately-owned CFS/UGS facilities.
Students taking a fifth year to complete a Thayer BE degree are no longer eligible for on-campus housing in their fifth year. Active olders (students from the class of 2008 or prior) may apply for fall housing but are not eligible to participate in room draw. For the fall term, active olders who want on-campus housing should apply on BannerStudent by the June 2, 2008 deadline. All on-time waitlist applications will be processed in priority number order and active olders will continue to receive priority numbers in the senior class range of 801-2300.
The deadline for students to change their D-Plan for the fall term is April 29, 2008; the winter and spring term deadlines are still to be determined by the Registrar's Office but will be available on their website in late summer 2008.
As new arts facilities are being constructed, Brewster Hall will no longer be available after the end of fall term. The International Affinity Program is moving to McCulloch Hall. Brewster will be available for the fall term only at Room Draw to students who are enrolled in classes in Hanover for the fall but will be away winter term. Students who are interested in this option at Room Draw need to have a D-Plan in place that shows they are an "R" for the fall and not an "R" for the winter term. When you check your priority number on-line, it will show your fall and winter D-Plan so be sure those are accurate when you print the page to bring to check-in for your night at Room Draw! Students with questions about this one-term-only option should contact a member of the Housing Office staff.
When talking with your friends and determining with whom you want to live next year, we suggest that you talk about your D-plans. If you and your chosen roommate have different D-plans in the winter or spring, you may want to talk to other friends to arrange to pull someone into the vacancy. Another option is to choose a roommate who has the same D-plan pattern as you so that your room will be empty for new residents when you go on leave or an FSP. For more advice or suggestions on choosing a roommate, speak with your community director (CD), undergraduate advisor (UGA) or a member of the Undergraduate Housing Office staff.
Barring exceptions approved by the Undergraduate Housing Office, your housing assignment in a residence hall for the fall or winter term automatically carries over for the next term if your D-plan for the following term is an “R” at the time of that term’s housing application deadline. Housing assignments do not automatically carry over from spring to summer or summer to fall.
Members of the class of 2011 are are guaranteed housing for their sophomore year provided they are enrolled in classes in Hanover (have a D-Plan of “R”) and participate in room draw/apply by the appropriate deadline. While all 11’s who participate in Room Draw may not receive an assignment at that event, those who submit a waitlist application by June 2, 2008 are still guaranteed housing for the fall term.
1. If you are going to be in classes this fall and want to live on campus, you should review the Room Draw section of the ORL website to find out how to get housing.
2. Your housing priority number is available on BannerStudent. This number is used to determine the order in which you choose a room if you go through Room Draw. Priority numbers are not transferable.
3. If you cannot attend Room Draw because you are not on campus this spring or you have a scheduling conflict, you must select a proxy if you want a room chosen for you.
4. If you will not be enrolled in the fall, you cannot participate in Room Draw. For all terms except fall, you must apply for housing on BannerStudent by the appropriate deadline.
5. If you obtain housing for the fall in a fraternity, sorority, undergraduate society house, affinity program, the Gender Neutral Housing Program Floor (McLane Ground), or East Wheelock Room Draw, you cannot also choose a room at general Room Draw. One room per student!
6. If you are selecting a room at Room Draw, make sure you come with your roommate(s) and/or their proxy, your student ID card, and a list of 7–10 rooms you’d like to live in.
7. If you are choosing a room with roommates, you must be able to fill all the beds in the room, and the student with the best priority number chooses the room.
8. If you are not pleased with the room you select at Room Draw you can try to get a different room by filling out a Room Change Request Form at www.dartmouth.edu/~orl/housing/forms before June 2, 2008.
9. Brewster Hall, which is all single rooms, is available at Room Draw for students who are enrolled for the fall but will be off-campus in the winter.
10. Remain as calm and patient as possible throughout the housing selection process. If you have questions, contact the Undergraduate Housing Office to get accurate information. You will find that no question is too silly or basic and we all want to help!
