Overview of Room Draw

What is Room Draw?

Room Draw is the process by which students and their roommate(s) select the rooms they will live in for the upcoming fall term. The majority of students on campus will go through the room draw process, attending one of the room draw selection nights in May.

Who is eligible for Room Draw?

All members of the classes of ‘09 (rising seniors), ‘10 (rising juniors) and ‘11 (rising sophomores) who will be enrolled in classes during fall term 2008 are eligible. To be eligible, your D-Plan must show an “R” for the fall term 2008. The last day to change your D-Plan for fall term 2008 is Tuesday, April 29, 2008.

Fifth year Dartmouth Thayer BE students are not eligible for on-campus housing.  Active olders (students from the class of 2008 or prior) may apply for fall housing but are not eligible to participate in Room Draw.  For the fall term, active olders who want on-campus housing should apply on BannerStudent by the June 2, 2008 deadline.  All on-time waitlist applications will be processed in priority number order and active olders will continue to receive priority numbers in the senior class range of 801-2300. 

If you have not selected housing in the East Wheelock Cluster, an Affinity program, the Gender Neutral Program Floor (McLane Ground),  CFS or Undergraduate Society Housing, then you and your roommate(s) will select your room at Room Draw in Alumni Hall on one of the following evenings:

May 5	(’09s) Rising seniors
May 6	(’10s and '11s) Rising juniors and rising sophomores
May 7	(’11s) Rising sophomores

Please refer to the Room Draw dates and deadlines for specific dates and times.

There will be a finite number of beds available to the senior class and room selection for the class of 2009 will end once all those beds are filled.  Any senior who does not receive housing at Room Draw should fill out the fall housing application on BannerStudent by the June 2, 2008 deadline.  On-time waitlist applications are processed in priority number order.

Please note:  fall housing cancellations made after a room is selected at room draw but before July1, 2008 will incur a $250 cancellation fee.

How does Room Draw work?

• The person whose number is being used to select a room MUST ATTEND ROOM DRAW.
• If the person whose number is being used to choose a room cannot attend Room Draw, he or she should designate someone as a proxy and provide that person with written authorization, which must be brought to room draw, to act on his or her behalf. If you wish for the Undergraduate Housing Office to act as your proxy, please contact the Undergraduate Housing Office by Thursday, April 24, 2008.
• All roommates should attend Room Draw at the same time that the person with the best priority number is scheduled to attend to assist them with room selection. Roommates unable to attend must designate someone as a proxy.
• Lists of available rooms will be provided in the waiting area and on overhead projectors.
• Individuals or roommate(s) will proceed through the Room Draw line according to priority number and will select their room from those available.
• After a room has been selected, the occupants’ names are assigned in the housing database. The room is then removed from the lists of available rooms so that no one else may select that room.
• Short breaks will be taken each night to cross-check records, and any errors discovered will be corrected that evening.
• After each evening of Room Draw, lists showing the remaining vacant rooms will be posted on this site.

Students may draw only once and are expected to live in the room that they draw. In order to promote fairness to participants, all decisions made during Room Draw are final. Once selected, room changes may not occur without first obtaining authorization from the Office of Residential Life. Students are expected to live in the room they selected through the fall term. Unauthorized room changes/moves may result in the student being required to move back to his/her assigned room for the term, and a $100 fine may be imposed.
