Information Clearinghouses for Archivists and Librarians
The Archives Resource Center (ARC) is a web-based information clearinghouse being developed by the National Forum on Archival Continuing Education (NFACE), Council of State Historical Records Coordinators (COSHRC), the American Association for State and Local History (AASLH), and the Society of American Archivists (SAA). This site is an excellent resource for technical leaflets and other documents on local government records.
CoOL, a project of the Preservation Department of Stanford University Libraries, is a full text library of conservation information, covering a wide spectrum of topics of interest to those involved with the conservation of library, archives and museum materials. The site contains some useful online training presentations among other resources.
International in scope, this NAGARA site is particularly useful for its links related to electronic records.
The Archivist's Toolkit, though developed for small and mid-sized archives in British Columbia, contains a wide range of links and documents on arrangement and description, appraisal, accessioning, digital imaging, and reference services.

Michael V. Cloonan. Preservation Needs Assessment. Published for the California Preservation Clearinghouse, this article is well-worth reading before conducting an assessment.
NEDCC Technical Leaflet. Preservation Assessment and Planning by Dr. Margaret Child. The leaflet provides an in-depth look at the various types of assessments that are useful as well guidance on determining the value of collections.
