Introductions to the Novel
We provide you here several different introductions to Brothers
Karamazov. Each introduction provides a different "frame"
for the text. We encourage you to read these introductions, to note
when they were written, to think about their differences, and to
consider how the writers' position in history might have influenced
his or her essay.
Note: The essays are long. You may find it more comfortable
to print them out and read them from hard copy.
Edward Garnett, 1927.
