Birthright 2001
Three Dartmouth students participated in Hillel's ten day Birthright trip to Israel. The students toured the country with college students from around the United States, seeing everything from the Kotel (Western Wall) in the old city of Jerusalem to the Dead Sea, and doing everything from riding camels and rafting in the Jordan river to discovering 2,200 year old pottery in an archeological dig. Along the way, 7 important conversations were conducted in which the participants discussed issues relavent to their lives as American Jews. Birthright participants had the opportunity to meet with Israeli University students, see popular Israeli musicians perform, help out with community service projects, and experience Shabbat in Jerusalem. The trip was a meaningful experience for all who participated and illuminated what it means for an American Jew to be connected to the land and the people of Israel.
