The munchnone employed in this work is easily prepared from ethyl
phenylacetate by the following known route. (reference to this work
WILL be added shortly - my appologies to the authors of the original
work) Amino acid (12) is prepared in 80+% overall yield from the
starting ester. In-situ dehydration is easily afforded by the action
of dicyclohexyl- or diisopropyl carbodiimide, or more traditionally
by an anhydride such as acetic anhydride.
