» This is the temporary home for my recommended media sources teach-in.

Eventually, these will go on some webpage on my own webspace. In the meanwhile:

Compilers:

Common Dreams
www.commondreams.org
The granddaddy of them all: Updated regurally, Commondreams compiles news stories on progressive issues from all over the world, from small local papers to the New York times, as well as syndicated opinion columnists. Publishes a small amout of original commentary and content every day.

Cursor
www.cursor.org
A running compilation of overlooked press stories. Presented in a sumary like prose format with links.

AlterNet
www.alternet.org
A compilation of news stories from America's alernative press, papers like the Village Voice, LA Weekly, etc. Most of these papers are published weekly, so they are great for indepth coverage and feature articles, and useless for breaking news updates.

Straight Info:
The New York Times

www.nytimes.com
The Grey Lady. Pretty much as good as it gets in the US.

CNN
www.cnn.com
A steaming pile of crap, but updated zillions of times a day.

British Press:
The BBC

news.bbc.co.uk
The joys of non-corporate media. A nationwide network that often has better coverage on the US than the US broadcast media.

The Guardian
www.guardian.co.uk
The best newspaper in the english speaking world. Film reviews, international news and commentary, all intelligently written, free (no registration ever required), and from the right point of view.

The Independent
www.independent.co.uk
Always provacative, the Independent was only founded last decade, and has risen to equal prominance as the rest of the british dailies. It's home to Robert Fisk, legendary Middle East reporter, and always brings news and commentary on the region that you'll never find anywhere else.

The Times (of London)
www.thetimes.co.uk
The oldest newspaper in the world. Not espescially progressive, but an interesting non-us perspective, that knows how to scoop.

Magazines/Spin-offs:
Mother Jones' Daily Breifing

http://www.motherjones.org/news/dbriefing/
A daily updated column mostly reportage, some editorial.

The Nation (Rapid response weblogs)
www.thenation.com
Oldest continually published weekly in the US. Look to the right side of the page for regurally updated web only columns.

Tapped
www.prospect.org/weblog
The blog of the American Prospect, a liberal magazine founded by Former Sec. of Labor Robert Reich ('68). Very fun and very frequent.

War Specific:
Stand Down

www.nowarblog.org
A blog that offers anti-war perspectives from left, right, and center.

Antiwar.com
www.antiwar.com
Compilation of exclusively war news. Ragged layout, but not bad information

Other:
Salon

www.salon.com
In addition to good feature reporting, a great progressive comics section, it is a good way to access AP wires.

Ha'aretz
www.haaretzdaily.com
The other side of the story from Isreal.

Free Dartmouth
www.freedartmouth.com
A Dartmouth Free Press associated weblog with continuous commentary from Dartmouth students and alums.

Humor:
The Onion

www.theonion.com
Sometimes so close to the truth it hurts.

Mark Fiore
www.markfiore.com
San Francisco based politcal cartoonist. Website features funny politcal Flash animations.

This Modern World
www.thismodernworld.com
home to Tom Tommorrow and Sparky the penguin. Great blog, great comics.

Get Your War On:
http://www.mnftiu.cc/mnftiu.cc/war.html
A web only phenom. So. Damn. Funny.

» I have put up a lot of pictures in the photos section, including pictures from yesterday's protest in Washington, D.C. If you have any digital photos from any Greens events or protests, please blitz them to me if you want them on the website.

Also, a reminder for tomorrow's peace vigil on Ledyard Bridge. We're meeting in front of the Hop at 11:30 a.m. to walk down to the bridge. The vigil will last from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. Bring your signs and banners!

» For the sake of website organization, I took down the minutes from October 28 that I had posted here and put them on a separate page. Minutes from the latest meeting are also available. I'll be posting all the minutes on separate pages now, linked to from the about page for now.

Some other interesting links: "The Rescue Parties" in The Guardian is an interesting and British take on the role of the Green Party in U.S. politics. Also, something I stumbled upon today: Restore Democratic Integrity to Campus Greens - check it out.

» Tomorrow is the big "Why War?" event that a lot of us have been working on for the past few weeks. More information is available on the calendar page, including a schedule of faculty teach-ins that are taking place tomorrow afternoon.

Also, the Greens have been in the news! The Spearhead/Judith Baca event we co-sponsored was a great success last night, and The Dartmouth ran an article on it today.

» Lot of events going on that should be of interest to Greens. Our big event so far is the Michael Franti & Spearhead/Judith Baca event, "What Does Democracy Look Like?" The concert/talk takes place on Wednesday, October 23. Michael Franti & Spearhead's website is www.spearheadvibrations.com, and information on Judith Baca is available here. There's more info about the event on the calendar page.

Other relevant non-Greens events: a group of students opposing a preemptive strike by the U.S. on Iraq is organizing a peace rally on campus for October 25. Two large peace protests organized by International ANSWER are also being planned in San Francisco and Washington D.C. for that weekend. Want more links and information on anti-war stuff, you say? Here's a bunch:

Peace.Protest.Net - Listings of anti-war protests around the world
ActNow - Weblog by The Nation to keep you up to date on activism
Not In Our Name - organizers of the October 6-7 protests
End the War - Naitonal Network to End the War Against Iraq
No Iraq Attack - An open letter from the academic community

Sites included on our links page are other great resources.
