1. SPAN event
It was a huge success! Way to go Fan and everyone else who helped out.2. Interparty debate
The first interparty debate for this term will be underway shortly. We brainstormed for ideas that the Greens can present in our meeting with the other parties. A few topics we will suggest are: oil/energy use, funding for education, consolidation of media. Another idea, which would be interesting, would be to allow every party to pick the topic for one debate throughout the year, with a commitment to four debates ahead of time.3. "Expressions of Conflict" November 24
The Tabard is hosting an event on November 24 entitled "Expressions of Conflict." They are looking for artists, musicians, activists and actors to express opinions, thoughts, feelings, etc. about war. Professors will be there, dinner will be served, and it will be a great forum for all groups on campus. If you are interested in participating please blitz Rena Mosteirin.4. Banned Books Week Nov. 11-15
THIS WEEK. Amnesty International is hosting this week to raise awareness about censorship and take action to help persons in other countries who have been imprisoned for practicing freedom of expression. There will be a reading of banned literature at the Big Green Bean on Wednesday from 9-11. If you are interested in reading something (of your own choice or from a selection by Amnesty) please blitz Katie Gilbert. On Thursday, there will be a community hour at noon in Collis Commonground with a discussion by Professor Ball about the Patriot Act as well as student experiences/reactions to post-9/11 censorship. If you are interested in speaking briefly, please blitz Katie Gilbert.5. GMO Roundtable Discussion Tuesday 11/12 at 6 pm in 212 Collis
Love 'em, hate 'em, or don't know anything about 'em? This roundtable with multiple professors is a great opportunity to discuss GMO's and learn more about them. Professors von Moltke and Barrett from the ENVS department will share concerns about GMO's, and Professor Tom Jack of the Biology department will explain his work with GMO's and talk about their positive qualities. Dinner will be provided.6. Anti-War
More anti-war activities are in the works this term. However, the group that plans them is meeting independently of Greens. If you are interested in getting involved please blitz Kate Schuerman or whywar.7. Tree-Free Paper Campaign
Dartmouth is working with other Ivy League schools as part of the Ivy League Environmental Coalition to implement 100% recycled (tree-free) paper in all of our schools. It's going to happen! If you are interested in getting involved, please blitz "treefree" or "Susan DuBois"8. Endowment
Over the last two years, a group of 02's have been working on raising awareness about the way Dartmouth invests its endowment. Now that the majority of the students have graduated, the Greens are taking up their work to keep this campaign going. If you are interested in helping on this, or are just plain confused and want to learn more, blitz Clint Hendler or Scott Anderson.© 2002 Dartmouth College Greens
