On Sunday, June 10, 2007 the graduate programs in the Arts and Sciences conferred 189 degrees at Dartmouth's graduation ceremony. 73 graduate students received their doctoral degrees and 116 graduate students were awarded masters' degrees. All of these Arts and Sciences graduate students have worked diligently to earn the highest levels of education awarded by colleges and universities. The Office of Graduate Studies congratulates them on their outstanding achievement!
After receiving their degrees from Dartmouth, many of our graduates go on to pursue both academic and non-academic careers. Graduating students have the option of doing post doctorate research at leading institutions in their fields, or going directly to teaching positions at colleges and universities. Other graduates use their advanced degree from Dartmouth to contribute their academic expertise to exciting new career opportunities.
Dartmouth College awarded its first doctoral degree in 1885. In 1960,
Dartmouth's Board of Trustees authorized the development of new Ph.D. programs,
and since that time, the graduate programs have grown steadily in size,
breadth, and excellence. Currently, there are 17 graduate programs, which train
graduate students for productive careers in their chosen disciplines.
