Active Archive of Large Floods, 1985-Present Drought Effects on Surface Water Master Index of Inundation Maps

World Atlas of Flooded Lands The World Atlas of Flooded Lands illustrates inland and coastal flooding observed by orbital remote sensing. Each map in the Atlas extends approximately ten degrees in latitude and longitude and records actual floods as imaged since 1985 (most intensively, since late 1999). Inundation limits for each year are combined and shown as one map color in the online map versions. Surface water detected by NASA sensors during non-flood intervals provides a standard hydrography for comparison purposes. To access a browse version of the World Atlas of Flooded Lands, open the Global Index Map and click on the appropriate 10-degree tile. We have parternered with the Institute for the Application of Geospatial Technology (IAGT), another non-profit organization, to provide for international distribution of these maps and their associated GIS files. Maps and map data can be provided at reasonable cost in hard copy (paper), digital raster, and a variety of digital GIS formats. CD media or FTP transmission are both available.
