Just call me the Microbrew
Cowboy
No, corn is not the only grain I drink from a
jar! I'm also a fan of fresh and tasty barley
pops. Here are some of my favorites (in no
particular order):

Long
Trail Brewery
Bridgewater, Vermont
Long Trail Ale is tasty and not
too heavy. Just right.
Hibernator is a Winter seasonal.
High in alcohol content. Perfect for those cold
Vermont winter days. And don't you just love
brown ales? I do. Long Trail's Brown Ale
is very, very good! The Pollenator, with just a hint of
honey, is thrist-quenching on hot summer
daze.

|
Catamount Brewery
White River Junction, Vermont
Catamount Amber is their
best-seller, it is very tasty. Catamount
Gold is lighter than the Amber. It is
refreshing on a hot summer day. Catamount
Christmas Ale is a tasty Winter
seasonal. Some years batches are better than
others. Seems to have become hoppier in more
recent years.

7 Barrel Brewery
West Lebanon, New Hampshire
This is a restaraunt as well as a brewery. Good
pub-style fare (I recommend the chili), and oh my what
tasty beers! My favorites are the New
Dublin Brown Ale and the Red 7
Ale, but really you can't go wrong with
any of Brewmaster Paul White's offerings.Live
music every Friday night, including one of my
favorite bands, Currently
Nameless.

|
Vermont Pub &
Brewery
Burlington, Vermont
The sister-brewery of the 7 Barrel Brewery. Same
pub-style fare and a great bar that serves two
rooms.Fresh and tasty beers, try a sampler if you
like. I like the Brown Ale and
the Dogbite Bitter. Weekends the
pub sometimes has live music (outside on their
spacious and wonderful patio,weather permitting),
including Currently
Nameless.

Magic Hat Brewery
Burlington, Vermont
Some of the tastiest brews in
the state of Vermont (if not the entire
country!).Their very popular Number 9 can be
found on tap in many of the finest watering holes
in the state. Magic Hat also makes my #1 favorite
microbrew (see below).Don't forget to look under
the cap to discover why it's called Magic Hat!
You may get lucky, as I did, and win yourself a
free t-shirt!

|
Smuttynose Brewery
Maine???
Makers of Old Brown Dog ale, one
of the smoothest tasting ales around.
|
|
Otter Creek
Middlebury, Vermont
Their Copper Ale is the most
popular brew from this fine microbrewery. They
also make several fine seasonals such as Summer
Wheat and Harvest Ale.The
former is great for those lazy summer daze, and
the latter will take the chill out of a fall
evening.

Bourbon Cowboy's
All-Time #1 Favorite Microbrew
|
Bob's
First Ale
Magic Hat Brewery
Burlington, Vermont
This is a real tough decision. There are so many
fresh & tasty microbrews around these daze,
but this one just edge's out the 7 Barrel
Brewery's New Dublin Brown & Red 7 Ale. Bob's
has a nice dark color, yet is not a heavy beer.It
is delicious, smooth, and goes well with steaks,
burgers, seafood or chili. For a special treat try
a Humble Patience (formerly "Slow
Bob's" ) with an order of Fish
& Chips at RiRa, the Irish pub & restaurant on Church Street
in Burlington.Poured Guiness-style from a
nitrogen-equiped tap gives a nice, creamy head. Of course you
don't get to peek at the witty phrase under the
"hat" this way. Oh well, enjoy!!

| The Buffalo Theory
A herd of buffalo can move only as fast as the slowest
buffalo. When the herd is hunted, it is the slowest and
weakest ones at the back that are killed first.
This natural selection is good for the herd as a whole,
because the general speed and health of the whole group keeps
improving by the regular killing of the weakest members.
In much the same way the human brain can only operate as
fast as the slowest brain cells. Excessive intake of alcohol,
we all know, kills brain cells, but naturally it attacks the
slowest and weakest brain cells first. In this way regular consumption of beer eliminates the weaker brain cells, making the brain a faster and more efficient machine. That's why you always feel smarter after a few beers.
