Dartmouth's Foreign Studies Program in Greece

Daily Updates
Week One: Sept. 22

22 September. Brian and Myung-Hee reporting: Today was our first free day of the trip. After moving some books into our Dartmouth classroom space, we scattered in groups for breakfast, which ranged from bread and fruit to coffee and pastries. Most of us had errands to run around Rome, such things as finding an internet café, visiting the bank, buying groceries at the supermercato, and perusing through the bookstore. Everyone went their separate ways again in the afternoon after lunch. Some of us took our siestas while others explored Rome or exercised. We all packed for our first road trip and Professor Ulrich was generous enough to allow us to keep our excess baggage in his spare bedroom. Many of us went to a small outdoor nightime concert at the Theater of Marcellus, which consisted of a bass singer performing with his pianist. Dinner was broken up as some ate before the concert and others after. A few of the more ambitious started working on our first paper that is due Monday. Gelato is the dessert of choice, especially with the warm weather we’ve been having. All in all, we’re enjoying ourselves immensely!
