Epidemiology
Epidemiology for the Uninitiated is an excellent introduction to the science of
epidemiology - or, as the authors explain,
"the study of how often diseases occur in different groups of people and why." The web page is written in lay language and
includes explanations of important concepts such as measurement error and bias. It also explains the difference between
ecological studies, longitudinal studies, experimental studies and screening. The page is part of a web site produced by the
British Medical Journal, which is published by the British Medical Association.
Supercourse - Epidemiology, the Internet and Global Health is designed to provide an
overview on epidemiology and the
Internet for medical students and other health professionals around the world. The concept of the course is described in the
British Medical Journal as the Global Health Network University. The journal Nature Medicine describes the site's lecture
style as Hypertext Comic Books. The site was developed by faculty at the University of Pittsburgh.
Epidemiology and Public Health Links is
a comprehensive directory of links related to epidemiology and public
health. Topics include prevention, journals and organizations, government
agencies, environmental epidemiology, international sites and data and
statistics sources. The site was produced by a Dartmouth Medical School
graduate student in conjunction with a class, "Heavy Metals III: Epidemiology
and Public Health."
