F ebruary 28, 2001 Meeting Summary

The meeting convened at approximately 7:00 PM.

TP 3 Site Visit

The meeting began with discussion of the recent EPA site visit to assess TP 3. Several CAG members raised questions regarding what is known about the ground and surface water in the TP3 area, and how EPA will decide how much of TP3 will be preserved. Linda Cook asked that the CAG be informed prior to all future site visits.

Review Summary of Alternatives under Consideration

Cindy Cook distributed a summary of the alternatives currently under consideration. The CAG reviewed this summary, and confirmed that these alternatives are the ones the CAG would like EPA to consider in the Engineering Evaluation and Cost Analysis (EE/CA).

Discussion Regarding Copperas Hill Coalition's Process for Choosing a TAG Consultant(s)

Sally Mansur described the Copperas Hill Coalition's (CHC) interview process for potential consultants, and asked for the CAG's reactions. Fifteen proposals were received, three people were interviewed. The CHC board intends to hire Dr. Richard Downer to provide technical assistance in assessing the cleanup alternatives. The CAG indicated that it supports this choice, and suggested that the CHC also consider hiring Sherwood Reed to provide assistance regarding wetlands issues.

Approval of July 11 and July 18 Meeting Summaries

The CAG approved the July 11th and July 18th meeting summaries.

Agenda for August 22nd Meeting

Cindy reviewed the itinerary for August 22nd, including site visits to Ely Mine and Elizabeth Mine and a meeting with State Historic Preservation Officer (SHPO) Emily Wadhams.
