Buttress Construction Update
25 October 2004
See Photos Trucking
Trucking is significantly completed, however, there may be a few
miscellaneous loads over the next few weeks as the site is stabilized
for the winter. The additional truckload counts (approximately
900) were a result of off-site fill for the buttress.
•
Original total loads estimate: 2,300
•
Estimated total number of trucks: 3,200
Tailings Pile 1 (TP-1) Re-grade
The entire section of the re-graded slope is stabilized and well
vegetated. Approximately 600 tons of lime and 1,600 tons of compost
and manure were placed.
Toe Drain
Toe drain system is complete and functioning.
Buttress Construction
Nearly 65,000 cubic yards of buttress fill were placed, graded,
and compacted. Fill was comprised of approximately 10,000 cubic
yards of off-site material with remainder from the on-site borrow
area. In addition, 14,000 cubic yards of drainage sand were placed
under the buttress. Remaining work includes fine grading the slope
and crest, and constructing the drain downchute.
Toe Stabilization
The entire toe area has been covered with topsoil and hydroseeded
and the majority of the area is well vegetated. Minor rills will
be filled with topsoil and seeded before winter. The sediment retention
basin will be cleaned before we demobilize from the site.
Upper Tailings Pile 1 (TP-1) Final Grade
Approximately 8 acres on upper TP-1 have been covered with topsoil
and hydroseeded. Additional areas may be topsoiled and hydroseeded
before winter.
Borrow Area
Restoration of the borrow area is underway. Excavation will be
filled and area will be graded to promote surface flows toward
the spillway. The area will be covered with topsoil, seed, and
hay mulch for the winter. Final restoration will occur in the spring.
