Construction Update

4, 2006


The following summarizes the NTCRA work completed on the Elizabeth Mine Superfund Site for week ending Friday, 4 August 2006:

Hauled in bank run gravel (120 cubic yards (CY) for a total of 2002 CY), rip rap (1933.6 tons for a total of 3452.9 tons) and manure (362.5 CY for a total of 955.5 CY).

Mobilization of heavy equipment to the Site including two articulated dump trucks, two excavators and a loader.

VTDEC, EPA, USACE, and URS reviewed the layout of a new access road and the surface water channel extension from Sta. 23+00 (past the existing access road below buttress) to Copperas Brook.

Surveyed proposed the channel extension from Sta. 23+00 to Copperas Brook

Removal of sediment from the existing sedimentation ponds. The removed sediment was placed on top of TP-1.

Began clearing of the new access road and the channel extension from Sta. 23+00 to Copperas Brook

Installed water bars on Copperas Road.

Installed orange construction fence around the mine shaft of the south mine.

The stabilized construction entrance off Mine Road to new access road.

Continued the layout of the center line of the drainage swale from Sta. 12+00 to 23+00.

The following work is anticipated between August 7 thru August 11:

Delivery of additional heavy equipment (bulldozers, articulating dump trucks).

Delivery of additional material (rip rap, wood chips).

Approximately 25 truckloads of riprap each day.

Continue clearing of the access road and the channel extension from Sta. 23+00 to Copperas Brook.

Clear, grub, excavate and install channel stabilization materials of Sta. 23+00 to Copperas Brook.

Start the chipping of the trees.

Begin regrade of west side of TP-1.

Investigation of the sink hole.




The land upon which the Elizabeth Mine is located is PRIVATE PROPERTY.
