Curriculum

Overview

The 2008 Summer Institute's Lead Faculty & Visiting Faculty will:

  • Outline the current "state of the art" in decision support/patients' decision aids (DS / PtDAs).

  • Compare and contrast current discipline-specific models for teaching decision support as a clinical skill.

  • Outline the current "state of the art" in interprofessional education in health care in general.

  • Propose ways in which these insights could be applied to the problem of designing sustainable interprofessional models for teaching decision support as a clinical skill.

  • Highlight the core principles involved in developing a certification process for these new interprofessional education strategies in DS / PtDAs.

The Institute's participating Fellows - advanced graduate students, research fellows, postdoctoral fellows, and junior professors - will debate:

  • How best to design interprofessional programs in DS / PtDAs.

  • The pros and cons of linking these interprofessional programs to a sustainable certification process.

  • If indicated, the strategies for linking these interprofessional programs to a sustainable certification process.

This discussion, debate, and exploration will take place in lectures, in small workgroups, and in interactive electronically-supported research "labs". Mentorship opportunities will be built into the Curriculum.
