VI. Issues-Oriented Groups
- Amnesty International is a worldwide movement which works on behalf of "prisoners of conscience" -- persons being punished solely for their race, religion, or ideas who have neither used nor advocated violence. Through letter-writing and publicity campaigns, sending missions and trial observers, and also publishing special reports, Amnesty works to gain the freedom of prisoners of conscience and seeks humane treatment for all prisoners and detainees. - The Animal Advocacy organization is designed to raise awareness of current issues involving exploitation of animals in order to work to decrease cruelty to them.
- The Cancer Awareness Organization has three major components. The most important is a program called - Help is On the Way, which is our volunteering branch and now a Tucker organization. Basically, our volunteers go into the homes of people dealing with cancer and help them out, either by doing yard work, house cleaning, walking dogs, or babysitting. We need many more volunteers and you only have to volunteer when you want to (no minimum). If you think a job sounds interesting you just blitz back and say that you want to do the job. The next component is education. We do education about cancer and smoking on the Dartmouth campus as well as education in the local schools. The final component is volunteering in the cancer center patient library. Blitz: Cancer Awareness or Declan Lynch
- Coalition For Life at Dartmouth (DCFL) is a student organization dedicated to promoting a non-violent, pro-life message on campus. We are a diverse group that strives to be a coalition in the truest sense of the word. Three main beliefs drive and unite the Dartmouth Coalition for Life: 1. we believe that human life is precious; 2. we believe that human life begins at conception; 3. we believe in the fundamental right to life. The majority of Coalition For Life activities are aimed at education and service to the community. We seek to promote education about life issues (as they pertain to abortion) through speakers, information tables, and participation in intercollegiate conferences. We are dedicated to helping in the local community by supporting organizations that provide services to pregnant women, particularly women in the Dartmouth community, and by improving access for Dartmouth students to existing alternatives to abortion. - College Republicans at Dartmouth is a political organization which provides a voice for conservative thought on campus. CR's have been very active on campus during the past year. The New Hampshire primary season brought to campus presidential hopefuls including John McCain, Alan Keyes and Steve Forbes, and College Republicans worked on all their campaigns. College Republican members lunched with U.S. Representative John Sununu, attended the New Hampshire Federation of College Republicans state conference, and even attended the Republican National Convention in Philadelphia! Our membership is very diverse and there are many leadership opportunities available. This upcoming school year will be especially exciting due to the election season, and we would love to see many new and enthusiastic members ready to work campaigns, have some fun, and get to know others with similar views. - The Conservative Union at Dartmouth (CUAD) is a political organization which provides a voice for conservative thought on campus. CUAD has been very active on campus this past year. This spring term alone we brought presidential hopefuls John Kasich, John McCain, and Bob Smith to campus, we hosted Ward Connerly, attended the New Hampshire Republican Primary Gala, sent representatives to the College Republican Northeast Caucus, increased our membership and attended a Steve Forbes Tax Summit. Our membership is very diverse and there are many leadership opportunities available. This upcoming school year will be especially exciting due to New Hampshire's importance in the primaries. - The Dartmouth Alliance for Mideast Awareness (DAMEA) attempts to promote and foster understanding and awareness of the geopolitics of the Middle East. Contact: Michael Sevi
- The Dartmouth Israel Public Awareness Committee (DIPAC) attempts to promote positive awareness and cultural understanding of Israel. Contact: Arielle Farber
- The Dartmouth Women's Council provides a forum for discussion, action and exploration of issues affecting women at Dartmouth. Contact: Sarah Warlick, Allyson Terpsma, Grace Leslie
- Dartmouth Students for a Free Tibet offers education about the political situation in Tibet and support for the preservation of Tibetan culture. Blitz: free Tibet
- The Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Club facilitates participation in continuing medical education courses and modules. Blitz: Lauren Weissmann
- The mission of the Inter-racial Concerns Committee is to eradicate the notion that discrimination does not exist in today's society. we provide the dartmouth community with a forum for open discourse and thoughtful action. while celebrating and attempting to understand our differences, the ICC seeks to combat all forms of bigotry and intolerance.
- Ivy Leaguers for Freedom was organized to reduce the politicization and political correctness in education at Dartmouth College and to increase the amount of intellectual discourse on important educational and societal issues by hosting a series of debates involving lecturers, Dartmouth Professors, and additionally by sponsoring discussions. Also, the group will promote acceptance of free speech and debate, inclusive of everyone and create an atmosphere where diversity is recognized and appreciated, but where common ground is emphasized. - The Libertarians at Dartmouth presents Libertarian ideas in philosophy and public policy. Blitz Rob Sutton.
- M.E.Ch.A. was established in winter 1999 to provide cultural and social support to Mexican-American and Chicano/a students. The organization attempts to create awareness within the Latino community and the larger Dartmouth community about the traditions, music, and history of students of Chicano and Latino heritage. M.E.Ch.A. strives to create a unified and aware community of Chicano/as.
- The intent of Occom's Razors, the undergraduate philosophy club, is to increase student interest and participation in philosophical debate. Activities of the club include weekly round table discussion groups, meetings with professors outside the classroom, and talks on upcoming courses and career options in philosophy. A significant percent of the year is spent doing the yearly undergraduate philosophy journal, Aporia, which is published each spring by the club. Blitz: aporia

- Political Forum at Dartmouth is organized to foster open political conversation across partisan lines and to combat political apathy.
- The Senior Symposium is a senior class program of seminars spring term on critical issues facing society.
- South Asian Politics and Education (SAPNE) is organized to foster open conversation regarding politics and education in South Asia. Blitz: Karthik Kalyanaraman
- The Speakers Union organizes debates and sponsors prominent conservative speakers. Blitz: Steven Menashi
- Students For a Sensible Drug Policy attempts to educate the Dartmouth community on the negative impacts of this country's War on Drugs. Blitz: Darren Lund
- Students for Choice was formed to provide information and education on issues of choice in the Upper Valley and the United States. Contact the Student Activities Office if interested.
- Voces Clamantium provides seminars, lectures and debates and student panels which address the issues of ethics, morality and theism from a primarily Christian standpoint in an intellectually stimulating manner. Blitz: voces clamantium

- The World Affairs Council is a non-partisan organization dedicated to increasing student awareness and understanding of world issues. We host intimate dinner discussions with Dartmouth professors and acclaimed international dignitaries and scholars on a wide range of globally significant issues. The Council also conducts regular meetings featuring lively student discussions about the latest news. Help us organize events that interest YOU! - The Young Democrats work on two levels. During election years, those of partisan bent often work in local, state, or national campaigns. At other times, non-partisan events of general interest are the focus: speeches by political figures, seminars, panel discussions, and related activities. Young Democrats offer exposure to government, current issues, and political action. All students with such interests are encouraged to join. Blitz: young democrats
