II.Academic Competition
- College Bowl is an academic competition organization that competes with schools all over the Northeast. The actual competition involves a number rounds during which teams from two different schools answer trivia questions. We take many road trips to participate in these tournaments, from Boston to New York to Philadelphia. It is a nice way to see other schools, meet their students, and have some fun while doing it. Practices are usually held Sunday and Wednesday evening. Blitz college bowl
- The Dartmouth Forensic Union carries a full program of competitive intercollegiate debate extending over a season which begins during the first week of October and lasts until the National Debate Championship Tournament in late April. During the past 30 seasons, Dartmouth has won numerous individual and team awards, including four national championships. No previous debate experience is necessary; membership is open to all students willing to do the required work. A minimum of 15 hours practice per week is assumed, plus two to six weekends per term away from campus. Individuals have some control over dates and extent of travel.
- The Dartmouth Mock Trial Society coordinates Dartmouth's participation in nationwide collegiate mock trial/moot court competition. Dartmouth fields several teams of student attorneys and witnesses who develop and present both sides of a national civil or criminal trial case against teams from around the country. Our teams travel around the northeast and the country competing. The Mock Trial Society also works with the Daniel Webster Legal Society to coordinate informational activities for students interested in legal careers. If you are interested in the law as a profession or you just like to argue, act, travel, and work with fellow students on challenging questions, Mock Trial is the place for you! Blitz (e-mail) "dmts@dartmouth.edu" if you are interested in or have questions about what we do. See you in the fall!
- The Dartmouth Parliamentary Debate Team is organized for the development, practice and refinement of rhetorical skills, argumentation and competitive persuasion; the cultivation of team and individual leadership skills through participation in local collegiate, national and international tournaments, and the mastery of advanced skills in persuasive extemporaneous public speaking. We encourage interested students to participate regardless of prior debating experience in high school. Blitz: debate
- United Nations at Dartmouth strives to educate the Dartmouth community about the activities of the United Nations. The group provides all members of the Dartmouth community with an opportunity to participate in model United Nation Sessions which imitate the procedures of the actual UN. Participation in these conferences includes research which broadens the members' knowledge of foreign countries. During the conferences, delegates gain insight into the difficulties and complexities of world politics. Blitz: dickey center
