I. Student Government
- The Class Councils act as representative bodies for each class. The First-Year Council is formed in the beginning of fall term by way of elections within the residence halls. It is a forum for voicing the concerns of the class. Although initial membership consists of elected members, one may become a member of the Council simply by attending three meetings. After electing a president, vice-president, treasurer and secretary, the Council concerns itself with activities such as building the homecoming bonfire and organizing of the freshman sweep, as well as planning freshman parents weekend in the spring. In addition to these events, past Councils have organized class social functions, worked with the administration on campus issues, made and sold t-shirts, organized class trips, and sponsored a host of events around the campus and the community. By serving as a link between the administration and the students, the Class Council strives to facilitate the transition of first year students into the Dartmouth community, and works to make the voices of those students heard. - The Collis Governing Board advises the Director of the Collis Center and Student Activities on the program, management, and operation of the Collis Campus Center. The committees of the Board are: the Performing Arts, Visual Arts and Exhibits, Social, Management and Budget, Publicity/Marketing or Co-curricular programming. Students interested in working on any of the committees should contact the Collis Center office for further information.
- The Council on Student Organizations (COSO) is responsible for providing College recognition to over 110 student organizations. Additionally, COSO provides its organizations with funding and guidance. Membership on COSO is a three-year commitment with members chosen in the spring of their first year at Dartmouth. Blitz: coso
- Hey '05s, the Programming Board should be one of the first campus organizations you check out! It produces all of the campus-wide events that go on at Dartmouth, and also helps smaller groups fund their own special projects. Being a member of the PB helps you tailor Dartmouth to be YOUR kind of place, because if you have any great ideas the PB will give you the resources and manpower to make 'em happen. Anything goes... our most recent event was a HUGE concert with Busta Rhymes, and you know what kind of show he puts on. If that magnitude of event, or something more like a swing ball are down your alley, or even if you just want to lend a hand to one of the best organizations on campus, come to our meetings on Mondays at 3:00 in Collis!!! We'll have an introductory meeting with free food to make it worth your while to check us out. Blitz: programming board
- The Student Assembly, a body of elected and student organizational appointed representatives, is a voice for students' concerns, issues, and ideas. The Assembly's committees provide structure for discussions and decisions based on different campus concerns; the Assembly also provides student services and is a mechanism for students to voice their ideas on how to improve student academic and social life. The Assembly exists to serve the student body and act as a central advocacy group for students, as well as a central link between the student body and both the administration and faculty. The president, vice president and twenty-eight at-large members are elected by a campus-wide election each spring. Blitz: Student Assembly
- The Winter Carnival Council is responsible for planning and running the nation's oldest collegiate Winter Carnival. Highlights of the weekend include construction of a giant ice sculpture in the center of campus, skiing competitions, a ball, polar bear dip and much more. Students interested in being on the council are very welcome. Each year Winter Carnival is held on the second weekend in February. Contact Student Activities Office for more information.
